I have an Mach 64 based card and it works fine under
2.0.xx & Xfree 3.x (RH 5.1 and up)
2.2.xx & Xfree 3.x (Debian Potao)
2.2.xx & Xfree 4.0.3 (Woody)
2.4.8, 2.4.13ac6 & Xfree 4.0.3 (Woody)

My config is located at

Don't know about the SX, but in my LX Xfree 4.0.3 is even more stable
then 3.x (I can now switch to/from the Virtual X screen during running
video capture without problems).

Best greetings

Btw. I also once installed a SuSE 7.1 (or 7.0, not sure) and X ran
     fine also.
