After some thoughts on what I can do with this problem I decided on going on with Debain Wheezy for at least 1 more month (until Suse 13.1 is released). I will use Wheezy without gvfs and I will not consider the hdparm optimization for the time being. If I hear click sounds, I will come back to this form to update this thread.OK, I tried to report a bug on this issue using reportbug. But I am not sure if I was successful. There was a warning that I skipped about exim4 thus I am not really sure if the email was sent to the reporting system. Is there another way to send the bug? S. Sahin
I just have one question though: If I use the hdparm method, will my problems be fixed?
For the time being, whether I will stick to Debian or not is the big question to me. When I initially installed Debian, I was considering to use it permanently as a production machine and learn it in more detail. But the problem I am having is sort of a show stopper and is contradicting the Debian's reputation of being predictable and rock solid.
Thus, switching to openSuse looks like a better option for my computer's health. I will have the disadvantage of having a smaller amount of binaries but have the advantage of using a polished system. One concern to me though is that I will choose Gnome 3.10, which is treated as a secondary desktop as compared to KDE, even though opensuse claims they are giving equal importance.
