If you fix the kernel config you won't need to run pump. I reccomend
fixing the kernel config, go into the kernel config program of choice
(I prefer 'menuconfig') and go to networking options, enable these
2:
<*> Packet socket
[*] Socket Filtering
then rebuild your kernel and reboot. if your /etc/network/interfaces
file is set to use DHCP(most likely it is since it worked on the
default debian kernel) it should just "work" after that.
