No other USB devices in use
Ther is a /proc/bus/usb directory
Hotplug was not installed, so I did that. Now dmesg *is* recording additional text.
This is the tail end - I noticed that each time I run the jpilot sync the "device number" goes up by one! I thought that odd.
hub.c: USB new device connect on bus2/2/4, assigned device number 7
usbserial.c: Palm 4.0 converter detected
visor.c: Palm 4.0: Number of ports: 2
visor.c: Palm 4.0: port 1, is for Generic use and is bound to ttyUSB0
visor.c: Palm 4.0: port 2, is for HotSync use and is bound to ttyUSB1
usbserial.c: Palm 4.0 converter now attached to ttyUSB0 (or usb/tts/0 for devfs)
usbserial.c: Palm 4.0 converter now attached to ttyUSB1 (or usb/tts/1 for devfs)
usb.c: USB disconnect on device 7
usbserial.c: Palm 4.0 converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0
usbserial.c: Palm 4.0 converter now disconnected from ttyUSB1
Still no syncing, but the message about the port not being recognised is now gone, so I guess this is a step in the right direction! Feeling a bit more optimistic now
