In which way did you install KNOPPIX?
* knx-hdinstall
* knoppixinstaller -> KNOPPIX like system
-> Debian like system
If it is still a KNOPPIX, boot parameter "lang=en" should work.
(Or include it in /etc/lilo.conf: append="...")
