Probably some program simply ran ls /dev, which thus triggers terms. But
that's really not a problem, that doesn't consume too much memory or
CPU.

By ext2fs and dpkg, that's not surprising. I'm just surprised that it
takes long. Also, procfs is involved, how frequent do you make top
refresh its output? The way it gets information from procfs may not be
so efficient.
