Purely looking at CVS checkins at this late stage of a major GNOME release
is not the best yardstick for active involvement or interest. The G2D
support code was mostly not written by John, whilst Ximian and Wipro were
working very hard on porting, accessibility, etc., before Sun decided to go
with Metacity.
If you're hearing my commentary as criticisms against John, I can assure you
they're not. I'm pretty sure, from communication with him, that he'd be
quite happy to not have the pressure of maintaining a very visible part of a
major free software project. He's very busy at work. :-)
So, the decision was even less like "John/Sawfish suck" than "LISP sucks"
(which is the idea I was replying to in my advogato entry). It's just a
realistic appraisal of where we're going.
