A few seconds multiplied by several thousand subscribers, and not
occasionally, but daily. The cost of spam should not be underestimated.

IMHO, if we don't want to close the lists, we should consider
seriously to start moderating messages (maybe those who advocate for
open lists should volunteer to be moderators :-).

By the way, I made a proposal to the listmasters a long time ago to
moderate the *most* spammy messages (see Bug #175744). They have told
me in the past that they are not convinced it would be a good idea.

I wonder if, after the recent spam flood, their opinion on this
semi-moderation proposal is still exactly the same or maybe it is
slightly more favorable than before.
