Yes, now I understand that it's different. I used my window manager
shortcut to close windows. With the exit command, it does not close, as people here said, but this is something I would not had imagined. That kind of threads remind me that I'm a real newbie in the linux world, I
like this!

No problem, I am interested to learn how others do it! (-: My main
concern thus remains: does this change with systemd, can I still leave
background processes running after logging out from the originating
login shell with exit / ^D ?

Sorry, I can not really help on that point: all I know about systemd are what I have read both around trolls and on official project's page (because at start I thought I was a great idea. I have changed my mind since...)
