You have to remember that Debian likes much splitting packages into small 
ones so people can install "only" what it is really needed and nothing 
more. So the expected in this case is having a KDE environment with your 
current login manager, unless you tell otherwise ;-)

(and "kdm" and also the "language packages" are mentioned there in the 
event you also want to have them installed)

I can't see such a package ("kde-desktop"), what are you referring to?.
