Re: lpd doesn't work
For short: still not able to print.
In detail:
Deinstalled lpr
Installed/configured lprng (with dselect)
"/etc/lprng/lpd.conf: No such file or directory"
Deinstalled lprng
Created an empty text file /etc/lprng/lpd.conf
Installed/configured lprng (with dselect)
"/etc/lprng/lpd.perms: No such file or directory"
Deinstalled lprng
Created an empty text file /etc/lprng/lpd.conf
Installed/configured lprng (with dselect)
Installed/configured magicfilter (with dselect)
"run magicfilterconfig"
Executed magicfilterconfig
"The following filters are available in /etc/magicfilter:"
<nothing>
/etc/magicfilter is indeed empty
"... you have to install the newly generated /var/tmp/printcap by
hand: ..."
/etc/init.d/lpr stop || /etc/init.d/lprng stop
"bash: /etc/init.d/lpr: No such file or directory:
...
/etc/init.d/lpr start || /etc/init.d/lprng start
"bash: /etc/init.d/lpr: No such file or directory:
I must confess that I am confused. I thought lpr is part of lprng which is
installed. I bought an Epson printer because I thought this is the best
known brand. Nevertheless, I haven't been spending hours but days, just
to install a printer, and it still doesn't work. Is this common in Debian
or am I missing something fundamental?
I hope you guys don't run out of hints and that one day in the not too far
future I will be able to print (sigh!).
