That's the reason we went for tex-common, ie a common infrastructure.
With the (lont term) aim that packages are playing nice together.

I myself am interested in this, since I have a whole lot of
commercial/other fonts, which up to now manage with /usr/TeX/temxf-fonts
and add this to texmf.cnf. But proper deb packages would be nice.
Could you send me your current script. We could also set up some cvs or
put it somewhere where you have cvs/svn/arch write permissions (and me
too) and maybe we can work out something nice. I would really like to
see this.
There is eg some problems: EG I made a package from my lucida fonts, but
alas the local TDS tree of my lucida fonts contains also tfm/fd/sty
files present in texlive, thus the generated packages just breaks. Maybe
I just have to add
Replace: texlive-whatever
to get it installed.
