Yes, just as you/Ben/Matthias want to impose your idea of the best
default on everyone else.

One difference is that this behavior is the opposite of upstream's
(gcc's), the opposite of woody's, and different from every other
architecture in Debian.  It surprises, confuses, and annoys people,
for questionable benefit.
