It's a loaded topic, as per prior emails by Charles and by Simon, but the
simple fact remains that _upstream_ stopped supported i386 several releases
ago [1] and given our limited resources it is likely a battle we do not
really want to be in.

[1] I had to look it up but it was apparently with R 4.2.0 three years ago.
