Why?

Because the ftp.ccTLD.debian.org names will need to stay around for
at least 3-5 years from now, even if we can come to a conclusion to
rename things ASAP this afternoon.

While the reasoning is totally correct and reasonable, it still
doesn't explain why you deny that we should _think_ about changing our
CNAME scheme.

I don't deny that. I just think it would be a really bad idea to set that as a pre-requirement for updating the mirror list.

I'm all for choosing some better name, but that's for a different thread and should not be used to block the task of "removing ftp:// from mirrors lists" which is what we're talking about here.
