Re: GDM 2.4 in sid

I've already tried uploading a separate gdm2 package, and it was never accepted into the pool. For Ryan's reason why he won't accept any gdm packages, see his closing bug remarks at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?archive=no&bug=180014

Do you have any objection about someone uploading another gdm packages
(called gdm2, gdm-unofficial, or whatever), which people could use and
so that it can get correct testing and bugs against it can get corrected
and other such things. Then after some time, when it is considered
stable, maybe its new maintainer and you can co-maintain the gdm
package, or discuss who will continue maintaining it, or whatever is
best, but in the meantime we could get an gdm 2.4 package in debian,
instead of lot of people trying to package it themselves or try one of
the many unofficial packages where no bug report can be submitted
againist it.

In the case you don't like it, please give us a good reason for it (and
not the 'gdm 2.4 is a straigth replacement, so it should not be packaged
under another name' everybody is using as excuse).

Friendly,

Sven Luthe
