What I see is that several advanced user keep complaining about how Debian
developers should manage the Gnome2 transition, but many maintainers of Gnome
packages agree to not have *2 packages ...

You can't say that Gnome2 has nothing in common with Gnome1... you can achieve
the same things with both, although some habits may have to change for
particular details. That's not a reason to keep both.

There's not much you can't do with Gnome 2, and things that disappeared
have been removed *on purpose*.

Yeah, life goes on. You think that by continuing to use/support Gnome 1.4 you will
encourage people to port their favorite applet to Gnome2 ?
