I disagree, the original poster did not necessarily confuse anything. You
cannot assert that "Debian package" has only one meaning when authoritive
sources such as deb(5) use it with another meaning.

(Did I hear anyone say our documentation about non-free wasn't working?
Maybe, just maybe, that's because our other documentation is written
improperly?.)

The point of my critique wasn't to dispute the differentiation between main
and non-free, but that what you were saying was basically implied and had
nothing to do with what I thought was the real point of the original
message, the technical issue of autobuilding packages. The proof that the
message was a distraction from that is the lengthy thread that ensued.
