The major problem isn't so much improving the idea, but finding the time to actually implement it, and ensure a smooth transition. Guy Maor seems to have some concerns about the scope of the proposals, and whether the results would be worth the effort to make the transition. With that and the ubiquitous `other commitments', I haven't done much more on this since. The long summary: Pre-proposal discussion: http://www.debian.org/Lists-Archives/debian-devel-9805/msg01786.html http://www.debian.org/~ajt/debian-ftp/ Other discussion can be found in the May -devel archives under various subjects, including "so what? Re: Debian development modem" and "musings on "the release thing"". Proposal: http://www.debian.org/Lists-Archives/debian-devel-9807/msg02084.html http://www.debian.org/Lists-Archives/debian-devel-9807/msg02821.html http://www.debian.org/Lists-Archives/debian-devel-9808/msg00002.html Discussion of the proposal can be found by looking through the -devel archives of July and August 1998, by grepping for "Archive Restructuring". I'm inclined to suspect further discussion should be left until January or so, but if people want to start coding, feel *very* free. Phil Hands <phil@hands.com> may still be willing to make accounts on open.hands.com for testing.
