You can't control the server resources: if feeds/notices are removed
upstream you cannot access them neither from rss nor http. Dead end :-)
What you can control from a RSS reader is:
1/ The feeds status (read/unread/tagged/whatever)
2/ The time you want to keep them from your rss reader
3/ Cached items
By using "cache" you can bypass the server settings and thus making the
"feed" (not the full news source) to live "eternally" or until the
specified time interval you choose, they will be stored locally in your
hard disk. Besides, latest versions of Liferea have added a new feature
called "bins" (kinda static collector) to expand that same purpose:

RSS feeds are, in this regard, similar to an IMAP account: their own
nature is being "server-dependant" but caching items and permanently
store them aside is also possible.
