Using mc is dead simple. On one panel, cd to the target directory; if
it doesn't exist, cd to the parent, hit F7 and enter the name, then cd.
You can also use lynx-like directories. To open up the .rpm, just move
the cursor to it and hit enter; it then appears to be its own
filesystem. Find the directory you want and hit F5 to copy it over.
Wow, you need a whole partition for /opt! What all packages have you
needed for which there isn't a deb?
