Re: upgraded my debian testing system and now have font problems

Another problem has emerged since my upgrade. When I try to run gaim, I get
the following message and the thing dies:

	gaim: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0:
		undefined symbol: cairo_scaled_font_get_font_options

i removed gaim and reinstalled it, with no results. I then tried removing gaim
from my system and everything on my system with the word 'gaim' in it, then
reinstalling. This got me weird messages from the installer:

	debian:/etc# apt-get remove gaim
	Reading package lists... Done
	Building dependency tree... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED
	  gaim
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 494 not upgraded.
1 not fully installed or removed.
Need to get 0B of archives.

Then I again tried running gaim and after the login screen the thing quit and
gave:

	gaim: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0:
		undefined symbol: cairo_scaled_font_get_font_options

(
but I can run gaim as root but can't play sounds and when I try to I get:

unable to play sound because the chosen file
(/usr/share/sounds/gaim/send.wav)
		does not exist;
)

here is the output of egrep '^\((EE|WW)\)' /var/log/Xorg.0.log':

Another topic, tho' i suspect a related one: when I try to remove or install
unrelated packages I get results like those for installing gaim, given at the
top of this post, including:

dpkg: serious warning: files list file for package `gaim-data' missing,
assuming package has no files currently installed.

The case i've tried of non-related installs is for sanduhr. The application
seems to run OK after the install, despite the error messages.

Is part of my problem that it's been 6 months since my last upgrade? All of
these problems followed an upgrade Thursday on my Debian testing system.
Also, is there some kind of log made when you do an upgrade?

I have tried googling on this thing but haven't been able to find an answer
there.

Thanks in advance for your help,

tom
