Hi Rick,
yes, many people use the vesa driver because it work with many chips. It
a generic driver. This provides a useable system until you find the
more feature-ful driver for your specific chip. Some people stay with
the vesa because they dont need the more advanced features. Hopefully
you can find the specific drivers.
