no idea either... sorry :OB(

sometimes autofs get stuck !

check if this is the case
stop the automount
mount | grep /var/autofs/home/ # to see if there is non coherent entry
ps -ef | grep automount
lsof | grep /var/autofs


I've no other idea but autofs has is own mailing list
autofs@linux.kernel.org
maybe you should ask them.
