I think this is just an inherent problem with an industry that moves faster than people can record it. I see this all the time where I work, and I've never seen a wider variety of desktops deployed in one shop before; it seems like every department picked it's own OS. And everyone complains about lack of documentation on their (department's) platform of choice at some point or another.
