no, generally the modules are in their own deb file.

it looks like you dont have a deb file for your thinkpad modules that
correspond to your kernel image deb. could the make-kpkg have died
prematurally, that is, before the thinkpad.deb file was created.
there are two reasons why i say that i dont think that the thinkpad
modules corresponds to the kernel image. that is the kernel version
number is different and it looks like your date stamp is different.
here is a list of my /usr/src:

so there you have it. the modules deb should correspond to the kernel
image deb in both kernel version and append-to-version.
