Not sure what you mean by "suddenly"... it seems
a problem of this sort should happen gradually unless
the paper is slipping in the printer.

I'm not sure the howto's actually have page breaks - the
pr program puts them in. Try "pr -T -o4", that will tell
pr not to put in headers, page numbers form feeds, etc.
See pr(1).
If the paper really does slip "suddenly" perhaps you can
describe it in more detail for us.
