Are there lines as follows in your /etc/network/interfaces ?
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
This as far as I know is required to be able to hit 127.0.0.1. I can't
remember (and by looking back in the thread) if you have a firewall
configuration running that would conflict with some tcp/ip issues.
