AFAIR *all* programs are covered by updmap, as the dvipdfm(x) programs
use the same syntax, and pdftex and dvips is anyway covered. But I may
be wrong, I never used any of the dvipdfm(x).

Ok, I give in, I will implement it that way (although I am still not
convinced of the option to have premade .cfg files). In fact, I slowly
get the impression that I could actually use it myself ;-)

Ok, I will move it too tex-common, and implement the stuff.
After this, we could recommend in the policy to use dh_installtexfonts
and depend on tex-common >= 0.9 or so.
