What happened with Ben's source? Have you contacted him about it?

But you're aware that you don't need aty128fb for X?

4.0 may not have support for the new Mobility chip. Can't tell for sure
without looking at XF86Config and log though.

I just use video=aty128fb: so the problem must be with the iBook's new
Mobility chip.
