As I said, I already packaged ocaml-re (http://sf.net/projects/libre)
which is another implementation of regexps. According to their
benchmarks, when native-compiled, it is faster than PCRE in most
cases. Should we have multiple regex libraries however?

Yes, unless it is not redistribuable which about I guess
