Just a reminder: you can convert many common file formats into PO, using either po4a [1] or the Translate Toolkit [2] converters. Please see this table [3] in the Translate Wiki. If your format isn't supported yet, write to the maintainers. ;)
Some translation editors also convert between PO and other formats. My OSX editor, LocFactoryEditor [4], handles PO, XLIFF/XML and HTML. You may well find your editor [5] converts some formats for you.
