Obviously having a gconf key is wrong, but I think you're forgetting
that GTK has a perfectly serviceable configuration mechanism called
gtkrc :)

I've never looked at the gtkrc-parsing code, but I imagine extending the
patch to accept a new gtkrc directive or two wouldn't be a major hassle
and would satisfy most people here...

It's no more silly than being satisfied only by pervasive changes that
you'll have to wait months or years for :)
