Could be. Well, it fixed the lack of prefernces anyway. Now on to the
next item: changing window manager. I just don't seem to be able to do
it :-(

For some reason it seems my changes in gconf-editor doesn't stick. I
tried the trick with killing the current window manager and starting
metacity from a command line and then saving the session, no luck!

I even removed my whole ~/.gconf tree, but it seems to be initialised
with the same things every time. I also tried editing the XML files
myself, but through some magic the same window manager entry comes back
in ~/.gconf all the time. I am somewhat confused!

How do I do it?

I am also curious where it finds the default. First I couldn't get out
of BlackBox. Then I uninstalled it, and now I am stuck with WindowMaker.

/M
