That does not change the fact that the gnome-terminal package has
been switch from 1.x to 2.x.  See packages.debian.org/gnome-terminal.

Perhaps, but they are linked with completely different sets of
libraries.

Please upload gnome-terminal2 and sawfish2 and let someone who is
willing, maintain the G1 versions.
