This is actually the approach I prefer to take in general. Using subversion this can be done very cleanly and, honestly, the amount of space wasted is really not all that much. There are much larger projects which do this also (OpenLDAP being another I'm familiar with, and I thought Xorg too, but I'm not sure about that) and it's really not all that bad and makes things very clean and easy to deal with. This will probably be the approach I'd take setting up the subversion repository for PostGIS, especially since it's really not all that big. Thanks, Stephen
