I did some tests. This error occurs with both gcc4.1 and 4.2 toolchains if
binutils-arm-linux-gnu 2.17cvs20070718-1 is installed.
If you change to 2.17cvs20070426-8 then it works fine with gcc-4.1.
Not yet tested with 4.2.
I would have sent a bugrep in by now but reportbug hung with
'checking for updated packages' - mutter.
BTW: Should we use the emdebian tag (or something else) for cross- toolchain bugs?
