I used to have an x86-64 box that claimed to support booting from a USB
stick but steadfastly refused to do so.  As someone who until recently
did desktop support for years, I can tell you that there are a lot of
machines I've encountered that can't boot off a USB stick, and maybe
about a third of those don't do DVD.
