Yes, I'm referring to the initrd.img-2.6.16.XX-bla-di-blah file that is installed by dpkg when I install the generated kernel-image .deb file that I created using make-kpkg (--initrd binary)..

An initramfs is a cpio archive.

I am assuming that are you referring to the file created after the kernel is
installed. Is that correct?
