Direct write access seems quite reasonable, but I've seen a number of
messages from d-i package maintainers (and others) on debian-boot saying
"your translation has the wrong encoding, I've fixed it". This is why I
said elsewhere in this thread that I think direct commit access for
translators is reasonable as long as a maintainer, or somebody taking on
that role, is responsible for the upload.
