The GPL means that it can be the same kernel, that's what.

Unless they can manage to pull something like KDE has.  [There are
hundreds of authors for KDE, including people at the FSF, and KDE
is supposedly GPLed software.  Some of KDE's authors say it's ok to
distribute KDE compiled against Qt, but there's no evidence that all
the authors have approved this useage.]
