They are compatible, and do essentially the same thing. The `x' is
for `extra', not `X-Windows'.
`xinetd' by itself does the jobs of `inetd' and the tcpwrapper
deamon. (tcpd). It has many more options, better logging, and a
different configuration file format. I really like it.
