That's a topic to discuss... Somehow I missed everything related to
"data.debian.org" [1] and I couldn't find much information to learn
about the problem. Is there a good summary somewhere?

Another game that I was considering is "vegastrike" for which we have
a RFP [2]. But to my frustration it turned out that game used to be in
Debian for some time but then it was removed [3] because its data is
too big(!). To me explanation why it was necessary was not clear at
all as I don't quite understand what is the problem (specifically).

 * Is that because large Arch:all packages drain too much space from
   "snapshots.debian.org"?

 * Or could it be because of burden/overhead for mirrors?

 * Removal of "vegastrike" happened back in 2010 -- do we still have
those constrains? Was is because of _temporary_ lack of space or
   something like that?

I found it hard to believe that merely lack of space could be the
case. Even if "vegastrike" with its data needs ~700 MiB it is just
about ~1.6% of all binary packages (~44 GiB) in i386 architecture
alone. Certainly we're in deep trouble if our remaining free space
margin is that small....

As for uploading of large -data packages it can take a while but I
doubt if it could justify removal of package from archive.

I'm deeply concerned about this issue. There are handful of free
graphics-rich games and we won't get far if we can't afford to host
even few of them.
It's a shame that we gave up on "vegastrike" so easily without even
trying to provide data downloader script or support for
"game-data-packager"...

I think it could be a strategic goal to package more beautiful games
of those that we can distribute. I dream to make Debian as good for
gaming as it is for other fields of endeavour...
