【增加活动的能见度】 通信论坛上有一封信[1]号召大家更积极地参与及准备
Debian 参加的相关活动。Debian 计划的网站上有数个网页[2]报导 Debian
参与的活动。这些网页通常有一个小段落简短地介绍这个活动，以及一个较长
的段落报导 Debian 参与这个活动的情形。不过其中只有极少数的网页有[3]
活动后的总结[4]报告[5]。希望将来的活动能在网站上有更多的报导。另外，
Peter Karlsson 制作[6]了 2003 年中所有活动[7]的 ICS 档案（Internet
Calendar entries）。Infodrom 上则有一份今年 GNU/Linux 重要活动的列表

【Debian 新套件的 RSS 资源】 Joe Nahmias 告诉我们 Andrew Cosgriff 依
据 Randolph Chung 的最近七天新套件列表[9]制作了一份 Debian 新套件的
RSS 资源[10]。附带一提，这份列表也是 DWN 中【新的或值得注意的软体套
件】列表的来源。

【新的 Debian 名片】 Jean-Michel Kelbert 通知[11]大家新的名片[12][13]

【须要 Python 的 Perl 套件】 Kenneth Pronovici 负责维护[17]一个 Debian
perl 函式库套件[18]。这听起来也许有点奇怪，不过这个函式库的作者最近新
增了一个元件，这个元件是用 Python 而非 Perl 写的。Wouter Verhelst 和
Matt Zimmerman 建议他将这个函式库分割成数个套件，保持原来的 Perl 函式
库套件，把新的 Python 元件独立成另一个套件。

【Debian Conference 3】 Tollef Fog Heen 宣布[19]将在欧洲（更精确地说，
是在挪威的 Oslo）举办 Debian 研讨会[20]。Oslo 大学非常好心地提供我们场
地。会议室和网路在研讨会开始之前几天[21]就会准备好，所以大家可以有时间
坐下来、相互讨论交流、烤肉、野餐，好好地轻松一下。如果你有兴趣[22]在

【Egrep 从 /bin 移到 /usr/bin】 Jan Niehusmann 怀疑[25]最近将 egrep
从 <code>/bin</code> 移到 <code>/usr/bin</code> 的作法是否合适。这会
造成如 logcheck 一类将 egrep 路径写死在程式中（hard-coded）的套件出问
题。Hwei Sheng Teoh 不知道[26]应该对这一类的套件登录 bug 或是再把
egrep 移回原来的路径下。Matt Zimmerman 倾向[27]前者，而 Adam Heath 则
是赞成[28]后者。Stephen Frost 认为[29]较合适的解决方式是让 egrep、fgrep
和 grep 变成同一个执行档。这样不但能解决上述状况，而且如果有任何程式
在挂载（mount）<code>/usr</code>之前要使用到 egrep 或 fgrep 也不会有
问题。

【从 Aspell 字典中移除 DEC 字库】 Kevin Atkinson 宣布[32]因为对 DEC
字库（DEC Word List）的授权方式有疑问，而且少了它并不会严重影响套件
的品质，所以现在已经将它从 aspell 英文字典中移除。对字库授权方式的疑
问在去年有相关的讨论[33]。

【Debian 的保障稳私权宣告？】 Rapha□ Hertzog 询问[34] Debian 是不是
应该要在网站中加上保障稳私权宣告（privacy notice）。现在网站上并没有
任何声明能让使用者确知如订阅通信论坛的使用者资料库会被妥善保密，不会
被卖给相关业者等等的稳私权问题。Santiago Vila 认为[35]这是个不错的主
意，不过现阶段的较急迫的工作应该是加强防堵通信论坛的垃圾信件。

【POSIX 模式下的 su】 Greg Stark 发现[36]如果将 POSIXLY_CORRECT 设为
1 会造成部份程式和安装命令稿（installation scripts）无法执行，因为它
们没有考虑到 GNU 程式在 POSIX 模式下执行时会有不同的特性。这个问题大
部份是因为在 init 命令稿中该使用 start-stop-daemon 的地方却用 su 才
造成[37]的。

【变更选单档案的位置】 Bill Allombert 说[38]因为历史因素，现有的选单
系统把选单档案（menu files）放在 /usr/lib/menu 中。但是，如果要符合
FHS[39]（File Hierarchy Standard），我们得把这些档案移到 /usr/share/menu
下面。他建议上传一个新的选单套件把档案同时放在这两个地方。Richard
Braakman 认为[40]因为这些选单档案都很小，所以可以暂时把同一份档案复
制到这两个目录下来达成 FHS 的要求。

【Changelog 使用 UTF-8 编码】 Colin Walters 提议[41]在规章中增列条文
规定 changelog 档要以 Unicode[42] 的 UTF-8[43] 编码。现在的情况是，
人们把各式各样的字元填入 Debian changelog。Radovan Garabik 说[44]这
样的提议至少已经被提出过两次，而且早已经达成决议了。

【使用者设定档】 Jamin Collins 建议[45]将使用者设定档移到 ~/.etc 下
，这样大家的主目录（home directory）看起来比较不会这么乱。FHS 通信论
坛上也在讨论[46]这个问题。Colin Watson 说[47]这个方式和我们大部份套
件的作法不同，而且使用者如果自己编译这些软体，它们还是会把设定档放在
主目录下。Lars Wirzenius 则说除非能用[48]时光机回到 1970 年代，不然
现在想做这样的修改已经太晚了。

【LyX 被移到 main 中】LyX[49]，一个在 X 视窗中执行的 LaTeX 所见即所得
前端程式（WYSIWYG-frontend），终于被上传[50]到 main 套件档案库了。因
为它使用的 Xforms[51] GUI toolkit 改采[52] GNU Lesser General Public
License[53]，才让 LyX 得以进入 main 档案库。Xforms 的 1.0-final 在十
二月中旬时发行并上传[54]至 main 档案库中。

【将 C++ 转换到 GCC 3.2 的准备工作完成了】 Ryan Murray 表示[55] 针对
GCC 3.2 的 C++ 转换计画[56]准备工作已经完成。因为 GCC 3.2 变更了 C++
ABI，由 GCC 3.2 编辑的 C++ 函式库无法和旧版 GCC 编译出来的 C++ 应用
程式搭配使用，反之亦然。除了 libqt2 之外，我们将以 gcc-3.2 ABI 重新
编译所有的 C++ 套件。让 libqt2 保持原有的 ABI 是为了维持它和 woody
及其它使用 libqt2 程式的相容性。libqt3 将使用新的 ABI。
