I don't know hamster.
http://packages.debian.org/stable/gnome/hamster-applet
The applet doesn't need gvfs, but it seemingly depends to something else
that was removed that depends on it. I can't say if hamster will work
without gvfs, works limited or won't work.

Search the web ;). Likely xfce-goodies is a meta package. If so you can
install everything that was installed by xfce-goodies, without this
package.
