I use the front mic and speaker sockets for VOIP - plugging and
unplugging the front speaker socket toggles the rear speakers. I don't
recall ever having difficulties with those chipsets.

What settings do you want to know about (it's kind of difficult to
figure out what state your system is in from reading the thread).
