Yes.
For DHCP you have something like this:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
For static you do something like this:
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.1.5
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.254
(use "ifconfig" and "ip route" to get your numbers if needed)

It's pretty rare, really.
The only time I have seen a problem is if the network undergoes
a major change, e.g. one ISP acquires another.
