My laptop is connected to the internet with a wireless USB modem. When I
plug in the network cable it autoconfigures eth0 changes the DNS and
domain name...
dmesg:-
e100: eth0 NIC Link is Down
e100: eth0 NIC Link is Up 100 Mbps Full Duplex

And ifconfig shows the configuration of the device has changed between
the two events.

How is that not configuring the device?
I do hope this is not a pendatic exercise about the difference between a
cable and a connection, or "by itself".
