Thanks: this worked.  Very simple: I just deleted the line `usepeerdns' in the
file /etc/ppp/peers/<my-modem>.  Now /etc/resolv.conf keeps unchanged whatever
stuff I put in it.

I have Debian Etch and am using ppp.
