See: Posting about religion is identically off-topic on gentoo-user as it is here, and thus belongs in neither place. Posting about buying a new motherboard is more relevant here *if* you will be putting Debian on it, and so belongs here (if you'll be putting gentoo on it, it belongs there). Posting about politics/patents is identically relevant on both, and thus belongs on neither, _unless_ the post directly relates to Debian in some way. Perhaps because it's talking about how patent issues will affect Debian or how Debian will react to/get around them.
